Sir Chris Hoy. Victoria Pendelton. Anna Meares. We all know these bona fide superstars of the track. But what about Japan’s Koichi Nakano; surely one of the finest track sprinters of modern times?

Now 57 and a TV commentator, Nakano won a remarkable 10 consecutive professional sprint gold medals at the UCI track world Championships from 1977 to 1986. He was also one of the most successful competitors of all-time on the Japanese professional keirin.
