As if there was ever any doubt. Yep. The Criterium du Dauphiné was originally established to promote a newspaper, Dauphiné Libéré, in 1947. Up until recent years the newspaper was still directly involved in the staging of this vital lead-up to the Tour de France. But ASO assumed full control in 2010. Sir Bradley has won the last two instalments of the race but won’t this year for the rather obvious reason that he’s not riding it.
