Crikey! Who will he support now?

January 30, 2015

Back in 2007 Geoff Barrett was just an anonymous education consultant who, like the rest of us, enjoyed cycling in his spare time. But over the past seven years this likeable Western Australian has become one of the most recognisable fans in world cycling, perhaps behind only the ubiquitous and seemingly ageless Diablo himself, Didi Senft. Geoff … More Crikey! Who will he support now?

Marriage made in (cycling) heaven

May 22, 2014

To date the 2014 Giro d’Italia has been pretty amazing (if you’re an Australian), with multiple stage wins, pink jerseys and the promise of even more to come. But amidst all the parochial bias, I have to say I think this photo taken a couple of days ago on Stage 9 has been my highlight … More Marriage made in (cycling) heaven

On Sunday’s menu: Ronde van Vlaanderen

April 1, 2014

A triple serving of Oude-Kwaremont. Single serves of the Molenberg and Koppenberg. Topped off nicely with twin helpings of the 12.9% cobbles on the Paterberg. Mmmmmmm.

A day in the TDU media scrum

January 24, 2014

The email arrives the afternoon before from race organisers. Your allocation in the next day’s TDU media fleet, car and driver, together with a caution not to be late. The TDU stops for no man, and certainly no journalist. Heeding the warning, I rocked up at the Tour Village in the heart of Adelaide and … More A day in the TDU media scrum

Cherry popped with Cadel on a Corkscrew

January 23, 2014

Attended my first ever stage of the Tour Down Under today. And what a stage it was. Following on from an excellent second place at the recent National Championships in Victoria, Cadel Evans took to the Adelaide Hills and did what he does best: prove the doubters wrong. As Evans left his rivals behind on … More Cherry popped with Cadel on a Corkscrew

Crashing the UCI WorldTour party

January 20, 2014

The Tour Down Under is a UCI World Tour Event. So far as I can tell, the traditional kick-starter around the streets of Adelaide, the 50km People’s Choice Classic, is not. A super exciting and super fast criterium, it sees the first clash in anger between WorldTour teams each year. It’s quite a spectacle for … More Crashing the UCI WorldTour party
