Just on the issue of helmets, here’s an interesting idea I (quite coincidentally) came across last week. Clearly this guy is a bit biased; he’s trying to raise and then make money. But would you consider buying/wearing one for commuting?

If they’d be approved for Australia (getting the standards sticker etc), definitely. I’m somewhat similar to you in that I prefer to have a helmet for the types of impacts it does in fact help out with. To me personally the biggest thing I have against them is how bulky and awkward they are once you’re off the bike. This would solve that in a jiffy.
