In winning Stage 3 of the Vuelta overnight, the USA’s Chris Horner became the oldest ever winner of a Grand Tour stage and the oldest to ever wear the race leader’s jersey at 41 years and 307 days.
But do you want to know the best bit? That means he’s older than me.
The old dawg – who scored a whopping ‘0’ in the UCI doping suspicion report a while back – was born way back in October 1971. A time when “Me you and a dog named boo” was a top hit and “Bridge over troubled water” cleaned up at the Grammys. Nixon was USA President and McMahon was Aussie PM. And Eddie Merckx had recently won the 3rd of his five TDF titles.
