All things Vikings

Today is a momentous day. As I type this post the very first stage of the very first staging of a new UCI 2.1 WorldTour event is taking place; the stupendously named “Arctic Race of Norway.” At first I was a little skeptical, then I discovered the four-stage event is run by none other than ASO, the grand poobah of world cycling organisers. For this reason alone it’s an event that deserves respect and will no doubt be watched closely, even more so considering the truly spectacular scenery on offer above the Arctic Circle. Thor is there in good form after a strong showing at the Tour of Poland, but not Edvald, who is recovering from a shoulder fracture suffered at the TdF – and whose team, Sky, isn’t competing in any case. At least he won’t have to contend with the curtain-fading nightmare that is the midnight sun. Can’t wait to see what the stage and GC winners have to wear, given Thor’s penchant for fancy dress anything is possible…
