The prologue of the 1971 Tour was an 11km Team Time Trial held in Mulhouse near the Swiss/German/French border. It was won by the Molteni team of Eddie Merckx, earning them a 20-second time bonus. Merckx went on to win both the overall General and Points Classifications.
