At last year’s Tour de France everything went right for Sir Bradley Wiggins. And the race was little more than a 3-week coronation for him and Team Sky; great for them, pretty dull for everyone else. At this year’s Giro, however, everything is going wrong for him. And it’s shaping as a bloody fascinating race as a result.
Now, there’s every chance Wiggo may still be packing the Maglia Rosa into his Rapha suitcase at the end of the Giro. He’s still in the top 10 after all. But following crashes, terrible weather, ill-timed punctures and clever riding by his main rivals (and dare I say, no Froome Dog, Porte or Rogers to marshall things) it’s a real contest this time.
