Perhaps inspired by the Ardennes Classics, most of the folks I ride with have been doing plenty of climbing lately. So it felt appropriate to share the following video from Stage 3 of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey which is currently taking place in, well, Turkey. It was an historic day as it saw Europcar rider Natnael Berhane become the first Eritrean cyclist to win a major pro race/stage outside of the African continent. But even more memorable was how he did it. This was the 2013 race’s Queen Stage, 153.5km, featuring three Category 1 climbs including a mongrel mountain-top finish. Watch what Berhane does to his three breakaway rivals in the final 200m (scroll to 7:45 if you can’t wait). And remember, that gradient is double figures!
Thanks to Steve C for the link to this awesome finish. We were a bit slower on our own climbs today, I think mate?!
Wow. Unbelievable turn of speed on a climb!
